Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Flex PCB

Direct answers for material and structure selection, tied to the released fabrication data.

What Is a Flex PCB?

A flex PCB uses conductive copper on a flexible dielectric film so the circuit can bend, fold or fit a three-dimensional assembly. A complete build defines the material, layer stack, copper, coverlay, stiffeners, bend area and electrical test.

Is FR4 Used in Flex PCBs?

The flexible region of a true FPC uses a flexible film such as Polyimide, PET or LCP. FR4 is used as a local stiffener beneath connectors or components, or as the rigid region of a separate rigid-flex design. FR4 does not replace the moving film in a dynamic flex zone.

What Is Dynamic Flex PCB?

A dynamic flex PCB is designed for repeated bending cycles in service. It uses rolled annealed (RA) copper, minimum trace widths, and bend-radius controls to extend flex life. The build record states the approved radius, copper direction and target cycle count.

What files do I need to get a flex PCB quote?

Send Gerber or ODB++, NC drill files, stackup, coverlay and stiffener drawings, bend notes, BOM if assembly is required, and your target schedule. The more complete your package, the faster and more accurate the quotation.

Ready for a released flex construction?

Send the fabrication data, material, layer count, thickness, copper, coverlay, stiffener, bend condition, quantity and assembly files.
